Arnold Dean Poppens, 86 yrs of Naples, FL passed away peacefully on January 29, 2026.
Born in Sioux Falls, South Dakota and raised on the family farm.
Arny graduated from South Dakota State University in Civil Engineering and served as a 1st Lieutenant Base Civil Engineer in the US Airforce. He earned his Professional Engineering license and was registered in 18 states, a Fellow and Life Member of American Society of Engineers, and a member of Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers. He worked for Colorado and Indiana public utilities and for engineering design and consulting powerhouse Gilbert Commonwealth to build kilovolt (KV) electrical lines around the world.
He enjoyed being a “gentleman” farmer, fishing, golfing, traveling, and keeping his lawn as lush as the golf courses on which he played. Arny was always an active member of the church, served on association boards within his communities as well as being the best neighbor he could be.
Arny is survived by his sister Betty, daughter Sharon (Greg) Goodman, grandsons Adam (Stephanie), Kyle (Amanda), Ryan, two great grandchildren, stepdaughter Jeri (Bill) Preston, and their children Holly, Sam (Stephanie) and Anne, stepson Dave (Carlene) Sands, and their children Katie, Noah, Donovan and Josh, and many cousins, nieces, nephews and long-time family friends. He is preceded in death by his parents Leonard and Mabel, his brother Eldon, first wife Lucille and second wife of 35 years Julia Ann.
A memorial service will be held at North Naples Methodist Chapel date and time TBD with a funeral service and burial next to Julia at Ripley Cemetery Chapel in Greenwich OH with date TBD.
Donations in Arny’s memory may be made to Cure Alzheimer’s Fund and will be applied to research finding a cure.
